The 295 hectares near Boca Tapada (“finca Pavón Grande”) is 100% virgin forest. Since the owner purchased it in 2010, it has been paying Payments for Servicios Ambientales “PSA” of about $18K per year. These contacts will run out soon and hopefully get renewed. They are transferable to new owner. The property is, we think, quite rare due to its size (and that the vast majority is absolutely virgin forest. This means trees of Almendro Amarillo (Dipteryx Panamensis) with over 500 years old, with some of the last nesting pairs of green and red macaws in the world, three types of monkeys (howler, cara blanca, spider), Dantas, Jaguars, Pumas, Ocelots. Also other trees in danger of extinction such as Cola de Pavo (Hymenolobium Mesoamericanum), Pinillo (Podocarpus Guatemalensis), Cocobolo de San Carlos (Vatairea lundellii), and Tamarindo (Dialium guianense). Being a virgin forest, it is absolutely packed with various types of understory and emergent palm trees. There is extensive water including a navigable waterway that connects with the San Carlos river. The topography is very varied – very – and it took us and friends over 8 hours to hike around the perimeter…up, down, cross waterways… actually even though I am an experienced hiker in very good physical shape it exhausted me 100%.
This property is very wild. It has a central trail and a lot of waters and very varied topography. One cannot go in alone because of the jaguars, pumas, etc.! It has enormous trees, many hundreds of years old, some with nesting pairs of the endangered Great Green Macaws. We prefer to sell this land to someone who would be interested to preserve it, and keep the primary jungle intact for generations to come.
But in general, it is a giant, virgin forest with a central trail. The topography is breathtaking – very varied altitudes and lots of rivers. Pretty much what you’d expect if you know that area. We think probably there are not many virgin forests of that size left.
The neighbor of the hotel has 400 Ha and is also for sale with about the same land prices per meter.
In conclusion, you could use a close to 1000 Ha of primary forest and a small lodge for scientific and investigation
